Maria Esswein
Born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri, Esswein has been a passionate creator ever since she was young. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, emphasizing in Sculpture. She is currently a Master of Fine Arts Candidate with an emphasis in Intermedia at the University of Texas at Arlington, beginning Fall 2020!
Esswein’s work focuses around the many complex facets of identity through a two dimensional and three dimensional platform. Fueled by emotion, she explores each piece’s personality through exploration/play, found object, installation, digital art, and more. Her art embodies what it means to be human, whether it be beautiful, horrendous, or just plain weird, as well as how it affects the relationships with the self and others.
Esswein does have a tendency to have political work from time to time, as politics affect the morality of a being’s conscience. However, despite the subtle themes of politics in some of her featured work, Esswein is determined to add subtle humor and a great deal of irony behind her work.
